Mental Joe Apparel is the bridge between staying silent and stepping into the fight. These aren’t feel-good shirts — they’re conversation starters for people who were taught to carry it alone.
Be The Bridge Foundation, powered by Mental Joe, exists to connect veterans, first responders, and Average Joes to legitimate, medically supervised alternative treatments, including clinic-based ketamine and psychedelic-assisted care. We don’t treat. We don’t diagnose. We help people find access when the standard system fails them.
Standing with Mental Joe means refusing to let someone fight their trauma in isolation. Because the toughest battle is the Battle Within
We Don’t Whisper About Mental Health. We Save Lives.
When facing a mental health crisis, you cannot avoid the problem; the best way out of it is directly into the storm. We are not therapy gurus or drum-circle leaders. We openly confront the struggles facing our veterans, first responders, and the Average Joe by bringing the conversation to them. We address trauma using the tools at our disposal (T-shirts and community) to help them access treatments that can actually make a difference.
It starts with Mental Joe Apparel, a veteran-owned clothing brand designed to jumpstart conversations about mental health. These shirts turn Average Joes into community ambassadors who speak openly and honestly about the struggles bubbling just beneath the surface. They’re more than slogans and slick images. They’re the first step to helping someone feel seen and heard. When someone says, “Dude, nice shirt,” the work begins.
Every shirt purchased funds Be The Bridge Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit built to increase access to alternative, medically assisted mental health options.
These options may help individuals address unresolved trauma when conventional therapy, medication, and meditation haven’t been enough. The Foundation does not provide treatment. It connects people to credible information and licensed clinics so they can make informed decisions about their mental health.
Why Mental Joe Apparel Was Founded
Mental JoeApparel was founded by Army Ranger and veteran Chad McLean decades after a botched paratrooping exercise abruptly ended his career in the service. He struggled with untreated trauma, addiction, and mental and physical pain for years, which pushed his marriage to the breaking point. He was finally able to breathe again after ketamine-assisted therapy helped him process what happened on that fateful day that changed his life forever.
Chad built Mental Joe Apparel as a response to the military and first-responder culture, where asking for help can put a target on your back. He used his lived experience and love of quality threads to spread the word about alternative treatments to other people in the service who are living with unresolved trauma. His background taught him that the fastest way through the pain is to charge into the storm by addressing the trauma that service men and women are told not to discuss. Mental Joe was born out of the “buffalo mindset,” which informs everything we do.
Who We Help
- Veterans: Service men and women with treatment-resistant PTSD for whom conventional therapy doesn’t work
- First Responders: Police, EMTs, and firefighters who are carrying work-related trauma while continuing to serve their communities
- Spouses: Families who have been impacted by trauma secondhand while trying to support a veteran or first responder
- The Average Joe: The guy who swore he didn’t need help — until the wheels started coming off. He’s not broken, but he’s tired of white-knuckling stress, anger, or depression that won’t let up. When the usual options don’t work, Mental Joe helps him find legitimate, medically supervised paths forward, rather than suffering in silence.
The Impact So Far
Be the Bridge Foundation has helped over 350 veterans, first responders, spouses, and Average Joes, struggling with anger, addiction, and despair. Our network helped them access life-saving care so they could begin to heal the wounds no one else could see. But the work continues…
Chad knows there are thousands more suffering in the dark. Our long-term goal is to expand our reach to help these brave men and women Conquer the Battle Within by increasing awareness of alternative mental health therapies.

What Your Purchase Supports
Every T-shirt you buy from Mental Joe Apparel helps build a bridge for those in need, sending $5 to the Be the Bridge Foundation, which connects veterans, first responders, and spouses to alternative mental health treatments. Our premium-quality apparel creates a consistent funding stream for the non-profit side, helping people access real medical care beyond simply raising awareness.
Where the Money Actually Goes
We don’t hide the receipts; 100% of the foundation's funds go directly to expanding treatment access, educational events, and logistical support. Mental Joe Apparel is intentionally kept separate from the Foundation to maximize transparency. We are not affiliated with any clinic and can only help people access treatments of their choosing. The money helps people afford treatments that insurance frequently denies.
Treatments We Fund
We provide logistical support for various alternative treatments that can help people process the trauma they’ve experienced.
Medical ketamine-assisted therapy can help ease depression, anger, and suicidal ideation for those facing an immediate mental health crisis. Psychedelic-assisted treatment can aid with deep psychological trauma processing and support long-term healing. Somatic therapy (TRE) can help ease pain and stiffness by unlocking trauma stored in the body.
Why We Fund Non-Traditional Care
Mental health is for everyone, but not everyone is comfortable discussing their mental health. The military and other first responder professions teach individuals to put on a strong face by pushing their trauma down inside because they have a job to do, and lives are on the line. These buried emotions don’t easily surface, and when they do, it’s usually in the form of anger and despair. Alternative treatments use ketamine and psychedelics to help veterans and first responders safely process this trauma by breaking through the mental barriers they’ve long erected.
Ketamine-assisted therapy can also provide immediate depression relief in a crisis when someone is considering taking their life. It halts the negative thinking patterns that lead to suicidal ideation and creates an out-of-body experience that can help provide a mental health reset following a breakdown.
We follow real-world outcomes and scientific results, not hearsay or flashy trends. Our founder knows from experience that conventional therapy has limits and that ketamine and psychedelic-assisted therapy can help veterans and first responders break through to the other side.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of each purchase goes to the foundation?
Each purchase sends $5 to the Mental Joe Foundation; 100% of this money goes toward increasing access to treatment.
Does my money actually go to treatment?
Yes, your money goes to helping veterans, first responders, and spouses access real medical treatments that can help save lives.
Why fund non-traditional therapies?
We’re honest about the limits of traditional therapy. Some PTSD doesn’t respond, and many in service roles are trained not to talk about what they carry.
Medically assisted options, including clinic-based ketamine and psychedelic-assisted therapy, may help create a setting where confronting trauma becomes possible. We connect people to information and access — we don’t provide treatment.
Who qualifies for help?
Anyone who’s carrying more than they can handle alone.
Be The Bridge Foundation focuses on veterans, first responders, people in high-risk industries, and their spouses. You don’t need a uniform to qualify. Average Joes who are stuck, skeptical of therapy, or running out of options can also apply. Mental Joe doesn’t provide treatment. We help people explore medically assisted mental health options by connecting them to information and access.
