We Don’t Whisper
Namaste

Chad McLean didn’t set out to start an apparel brand — he was just trying to survive. After a lifetime of childhood and military trauma that led to anxiety, depression, and a Greatest Hits list of diagnoses, Chad hit rock bottom with a suicide attempt in 2020.
That night cracked him open. In the middle of what felt like total darkness, a lifeline appeared: ketamine therapy — and with it, something even more unexpected… a vision. During one of those early treatments, Chad saw it clearly: a bold, gritty mental health apparel company that would raise awareness, fight stigma, and spark raw, healing conversations around mental health and the power of psychedelics.
MDMA therapy didn’t just help Chad. It saved his marriage.
At the time, he and his wife Cari weren’t partners. They were roommates, resentful, disconnected, barely speaking. They loved each other, but they had lost their way back. That work forced both of them to look in the mirror, hold space for themselves, and heal together.
That truth matters—especially for women and partners who have been told it’s all on him. Real healing asks more of everyone involved.
Not long after, Mental Joe was born — a movement built on lived experience, pain turned into purpose, and one hell of a healing journey.
This Isn’t a Brand; It’s a Movement
Mental Joe is a veteran-owned apparel brand that transforms clothing into a platform for connection, conversation, and healing. Shaped by Chad’s own journey through trauma and recovery, the brand exists to help GI Joes and Average Joes conquer the battle within by breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and alternative therapies such as ketamine and psychedelics.
Mental Joe serves as a bridge between silence and conversation, suffering and support, and traditional systems that failed and alternative treatments that work. For those who would never step into a clinic, retreat, or therapy office on their own, Mental Joe offers a familiar and grounded entry point into healing. We cut through the typical therapy language to provide comfort, healing, and relief to people who don’t see themselves represented in traditional mental health spaces. Lack of representation doesn’t mean they don’t need an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on, or someone to show up when they’re going through it.

"Mental Joe serves as a bridge between silence and conversation, suffering and support."
Each shirt, hoodie, and hat is designed as “therapy threads,” providing a suit of armor for those carrying invisible battles. These premium pieces are intentionally crafted to spark real, honest conversations that get to the core of what is happening behind the mask. They help move people from isolation into community, curiosity into action, and pain into possibility.
When someone wears Mental Joe, they are not just making a style choice. They are participating in a purpose. A portion of every purchase supports Be the Bridge Foundation (powered by Mental Joe), which connects veterans, first responders, and their families to ketamine clinics, psychedelic retreats, integration coaching, and support networks that are making a measurable impact.
Mental Joe is apparel with intention. It is conversation-starting gear for those forging through life’s toughest storms and a bridge for people navigating who they have been, what they have endured, and who they are becoming. That is Mental Joe: showing up, listening, and helping people conquer the battle within.
Pro-Action Over Performative
Wellness
We don’t perform wellness; we live it by turning words into action. Some mental health movements focus on routines, practices, and novel terms that do little to address the scars bubbling beneath the surface.
But we are a veteran-owned mental health movement created for and by average Joes and G.I. Joes alike. Moving from the battlefield to the battle in your head takes courage, grit, and a no-nonsense approach that focuses on the human being beneath the military fatigues or whatever uniform you wear. It takes connection, community, and, above all, showing up and doing the hard work.
Who We Serve
Mental Joe is for anyone who’s struggling with pain behind the scenes
THE HIGH-FUNCTIONING CARETAKER
The one holding everyone else together while quietly drowning. The spouse, the parent, the partner who smiles through it all — and never asks for help. We see you. You deserve healing too.
THE VETERAN & FIRST RESPONDER
The G.I. Joe who served and came home carrying more than a rucksack. The first responder who answers every call but their own. We exist to expand access to alternative treatments like ketamine, psychedelics, and breathwork.
THE LOST & UNHEARD
Someone who just feels lost and unheard. You don't need a diagnosis to deserve support. If you've been told to 'tough it out' or 'man up,' you belong here. Healing takes a village, and we're here for all of it.
We offer healing in plain-spoken terms and a sense of community rooted in resilience, loyalty, and authentic connection. We exist to amplify the voices that are often silenced and to fight for access to alternative treatments like ketamine, psychedelics, breathwork, and trauma-informed healing. Because we’ve lived it, we are it.
Our brand sells shirts to power a greater purpose. When you wear our gear, you’re not just raising awareness — you’re increasing access to alternative mental health treatments for those trying to Conquer the Battle Within. So rock that shirt, share your story, and if you see us out there, don’t hesitate to stop and chat — because healing takes a village, and we’re here for all of it.
Who is the “Joe” in Mental Joe?
Joe is the GI Joe to the Average Joe: Joe is everyone. He’s the veteran who never talked about it, the spouse carrying more than they let on, the parent trying to stay steady for their kids, the friend who jokes through pain.
Mental Joe isn’t a mascot - it’s a mirror. A reminder that you’re not broken, you’re not alone, and asking for help doesn’t make you weak — it makes you honest.
